Hedge Fund Job Opportunities Tips
  • Apply for the un-advertised position. Many times HF managers will advertise that they are looking to add someone to their team yet if they find someone very hard working, dedicated, passionate, intelligent, and well trained they may be open to making room for them to help grow their fund business further.
  • Plan out your HF career path. It may seem unrealistic right now to plan out exactly what jobs or positions you want to hold in the alternative investment world before you have barely gotten started but it helps. By knowing what you want you can further specialize your knowledge and show that you have done your homework when you show up for interviews.
  • Training: To improve your chances of working in the industry seek out a hf certification or designation program of some type to help you both learn more about the industry and be recognized by a third party. By doing so you will have an edge over many other participants who have not taken the time to complete such a program. While looking at potential programs to complete seek out one that is flexible so you may complete it from anywhere in the world, and make sure that you take advantage of the career coaching and resume feedback assistance as well.
  • Meet face-to-face. Whether you are just networking or having an informational interview meeting face-to-face is worth multiple phone calls and dozens of emails. If you meet in-person you will be remember and you will have a chance to show them exactly what type of person you really are.
  • Gain as much HF industry specific knowledge as possible. If you really want to work in the industry you need to read books, subscribe to newsletters, read magazines, and network with industry insiders non-stop so that you can pick up on current trends, challenges, terms, and ways of doing things inside of the industry.
